injury report
I had been running 2/3xwk until last wk pulled muscle in foot- I have been rehabing it but
it is going slow-the problem is I don't want to push it too hard and then have it totally blow out- I have had that happen before and its so much worse- still think I should be ok for race-

Hotel booked!
So I just finished booking our hotel for the night before the race. I have never seen this place but it looks like it will be really nice. Check it out, we are staying at the W Hotel on Lakeshore Drive. You can look at the hotel rooms, we are staying in the Wonderful room. I booked two rooms each has 2 queen beds. The hotel is the official race hotel and will provide shuttle to and from the race start. Check out time is at 12 so I assume we will go back to the hotel afterwards and check out.
The hotel must be giving a huge discount to runners because the normal cost for one of the rooms we are staying in with 4 people per room would be $470, but we are getting 2 rooms for $598. We anticipate getting $500 for the Plymouth and can split the rest between all of us if that is fine with everyone.
Check out the hotel online! I am even more excited for the race now and hopefully you will be too!!
Love you al!
Daddy please keep us posted on your training!!

Completed my 5K!
This week went pretty well. I having been running 3 days a week, and I added a 3 mile walk as well. I know the training schedules I have suggest running 4 times, but I don't like running 2 days in a rowso for now I will add a walk.
monday: 3 miles run
Wednesday: 3 miles run
Friday: 3 mile walk
Saturday: 5k race at Lumberjack Days in Stillwater, finished in 33:07
I am hoping to get up to 5 miles comfortably this week. Lacey and Tahnee, do you want to go running together on friday or saturday? Let me know so I can plan my running schedule this week around our run.
Also I am looking at possibly doing a 15k (9.3 miles) in Chisago on saturday August 23. It is a run/walk. That is 4 weeks away and 3 weeks before the half marathon. Anyone else interested? The cost is $20, or $25 on the race day.
Joel is still having issues with his knee. He is hoping to go to the doctor this week. He still really wants to do the half marathon and thinks he could do it as long as he doesn't have a serious injury. We will keep you posted on his participation in the event. He did walk the 5k on saturday with our friends mom. I am proud of him for walking, even though I know he wanted to run, but a lot of the race was downhill and that is really hard on his knee.
Well, I love you all and look forward to hearing how your training is going.
Love,
OJ
Erik's New Post
Okay, so this week Tahnee kicked my butt in running. I worked 7, 12 hour days straight and I didn't run at all this week. It has been a long week, however, Each day I walked about 8 miles at work, with the rounds and just working if that counts. Hope everyone is doing well.

PLEASE POST EVERY WEEK!!!!
Hi!
I just wanted to add a friendly reminder that everyone needs to post every weekend. Last week not many people posted, so please get out there and do it each week. It doesn't take that long and really does help everyone with their training.
Thanks!

Lacey's Entry for week of 7/21
Hello!
I had a good week this week! Here are my runs:
Tuesday: 3 miles
Thursday: 3.5 miles
Saturday: 6 miles (with lots of hills)
Sunday: 2.5 miles (while pushing Melody is the stroller)
My 6 miles run actually went pretty good. I got a little tired towards the end and my legs are really tight, but at least I made it!!

Lacey's Entry for the week of 7/14
Hi guys!
I hope you are enjoying your weekend. Here is my post for this past week:
Tuesday: 3.5 miles
Wednesday: 3.5 miles
Sunday: 5.5 miles
I need to try and start doing four runs a week, but this week was better than last week. I am feeling really good when I run, the hard part for me is just finding the time. I try to get up early and run before I go to work, but somedays I just can't be myself out of bed. Next week I'm going to shoot for 4 runs. I hope your training is going well!!

Wednesday: 1 hour stretched and balanced class
Thursday: 3 mile run in 33 minutes No walking!!
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 3 mile run in 33 minutes No walking again!
Sunday: Rest
This was a great week for me. My right calf is a bit tight, I think from the kickboxing class, but it is getting better. I look forward to this next week. I hope to get 4 miles without stopping. Finally I am running 3 miles and don't feel like I am struggling every second of the run.
This upcoming saturday is our 5K race!
Hope everyone is doing well. I can't wait to hear how your training went this week.

No small victory!
I just had to share that this morning I was finally able to run for 30 minutes without stopping! I ran 3 miles in 32 minutes and didn't have to stop, except for crossing the road once at a stoplight. This was a very encouraging run for me. I know I still have a long way to go, but it is nice to see some improvement! Now I am even more excited to run a 5k next saturday knowing that I can actually run 3 miles!
Hope you all have a good day,
OJ

This week started out okay, but then I got really busy and didn't run this weekend.
Monday: 3 mile walk with Joel
Tuesday: 2 mile walk with Myles in stroller (babysitting for a friend) and 40 min rollerblade with Jonell (Myle's mom)
Wednesday: 2 mile run that went great
Thursday: 1 and a half mile run and then 1 and a half mile walk with huge cramp in abs
fri-sun...shamefully were all rest days because of work and being busy
I am planning to go running today but a girl I work with might come over for dinner and then wants me to go to a cardio kickboxing class with her...so we'll see.
Any tips for running when it is really hot out? I try to go in the morning or at night, but what if those times don't work for me... anything I should know about running when it is hot?
It is really exciting to see everyone running. Joel went yesterday and his knee isn't doing well, he is really bummed, hopefully we will get him to the doctor soon.
Congrats everyone for working hard!

Having fun!
Hey all. So far so good, i'm falling into the groove. I think in another week I will be feeling bad if I miss a day of running or working out. Once I actually get dressed for the run and walk outside and start stretching I am ready for the run. I try to go later in the day, or earlier in the morning. It gets so blazing hot, but I do like the sweat. It makes me feel like I worked out harder. This week should be a good week for me since I have the week off, and I am looking to pick up the distance a little as well. Next week will be a challenge as I work 7-12 hour days straight. Here are my workouts:
Monday8: I walk about 8 or 9 miles at work a night.
Tuesday 9: 2 mile run time 17:47
Wednesday 10: 4 miles; 1st 2 miles 17:23, 2nd 2 miles 18:05
Thursday 11: 2 miles 20:00
Friday 12: 3 miles; first 2 miles 16:45, last mile 8:00
Saturday 13: 300 pushups, 300 situps, walked 6 miles over 2 hour time.
Saturday 14: Nothing
Hope everyone is healing up or staying healthy. Don't push yourselves further than you can go. Stay save, and just keep running, just keep running, run run run.

A little race day info
Pace Requirements for the race, found on the race website http://www.chicagohalfmarathon.com
Concerning pace guidelines, note that due to the fact that our scenic running course uses a large part of busy Lake Shore Drive and that there are numerous churches, harbors, a golf course and other institutions and organizations along our race route, we ask that our runners keep a minimum per mile race. In an effort to open the course back up to the community, participants are required to race at a 13 minute mile pace. The expected finish time at this pace is 2:50:21. Runners exceeding that pace may be asked by a course marshal or Chicago Police officer to finish the course on an adjacent sidewalk. Thank you for your understanding.
Finallly in blog!!
ok- I'm finally in... I have been running, will post miles and times next blog!
Thanks Lacey and OJ for your help!

Half Marathon Training Plan for Beginners
Hello!
I hope you are all having a good week so far. I found a half marathon training plan that I thought I would share with you. It's a 10 week training plan, which is perfect since we have 10 weeks left until the big day. Here is the link to the webpage I found it on: http://www.marathonrookie.com/half-marathon-training.html. The page gives you a lot of good info about half marathons and the training info is towards the bottom of the page. I hope you find it useful.
I also wanted to share with you that I am really proud of myself. I ran 8 miles yesterday without walking!!
Have a good night. Happy training!!

Joel's knee is still hurting, though we think it is getting better. He was out of commission this week as he was limping around. He did go for a 1 mile walk on Saturday and felt okay, but hurt a bit by the end of the walk. Hopefully by the end of this week he will be able to run again.
Training this week for me consisted of:
Monday: 2 mile run on the treadmill
Tuesday: 2 mile walk
Wednesday: off
Thursday: 3 mile bike and 1 hour yoga class
Friday: off
Saturday: 2 mile run (with a little bit of walking) and 1 mile walk later in the evening with Joel
Sunday: 1 hour rollerblading
I was very encouraged by my run on saturday, it felt better than any of the other times I was running. It helped that I went in the morning and hadn't had anything to eat so I didn't feel sick at all. So hopefully this week I will be able to do the full 2 miles without stopping at all and I will start increasing my distances a bit.
I am a little concerned that I am only running 2 miles right now, but I figure we still have 10 weeks left so I have high hopes that I can still do this. I am going to give it my best shot! My feet have not gotten any worse yet so hopefully they won't keep me from running. I am still waiting on insurance stuff to be figured out and then I will head to the doctor.
I would love to hear from Daddy, Tahnee and Erik. Even if you are only walking or aren't doing anything just let us know that! If you don't know how to post call or email and I will help you figure it out. You need to sign in with a gmail email account and then can post.
LOVE YOU ALL!
Lacey - week of 6/30
Hi everyone! I hope you had a good 4th of July! Here is my entry for this past week:
7/1: ran 4 miles
7/2: played 60 minutes of tennis
7/3: ran 2.5 miles pushing Melody
7/5: ran 5 miles in the heat and wind. It was definitely a very hard run, but felt great when I finished.
OJ, to answer your question about the side aches. The way to get rid of the side aches is through your breathing. If you concentrate on breathing and make sure you are exhaling it should help. I know you have asked me to help you with your breathing, so let's try to run together sometime soon. Even if it's just for a mile or so.
Everyone, we only have 10 weeks of training left, so let's try to help each other out and make sure we are training as much as possible. Even if you can get out and bike a little (for those who are injured) that will help as well. If you start out with short distances, you'll be surprised at how much endurance you can build and little by little you can start adding more distance.
We can do it!!! Imagine how amazing it will feel when we all finish! Please keep logging your training on this blog, so that we can help each other out. Have a great rest of your weekend.
I love you all!
